I was fortunate to have been raised by a family who were passionate about being active. Movement has therefore been a part of my life from a very young age and remains the foundation of all of my work. It has been a privilege to work as teacher, performer, and choreographer over the past 37 years, and to be able to bring those experiences into my work with people in various capacities.
As part of my commitment to the development of training within movement for professional contemporary dance artists, I co-directed alongside Gill Clarke the professional training programme Independent Dance from 1996-2015.
As part of my ongoing movement practice I have always included, and benefitted enormously from, a range of somatic approaches such as: Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique, Klein Technique, Body Mind Centering, Hanna Somatics, Franklin Method, and Scaravelli Yoga.
With the desire to create an integrated and wholistic approach to all of my work, a deep respect and love for the resilience and mystery of the body, and a curiosity about how we move through life – I have also delved more deeply into, and am a qualified practitioner of, the following approaches to the body:
Therapeutic Massage Practitioner (USA 1990-1991) and UK (ITEC) 1992-1993
Franklin Method™ Educator 2001-2004
Certified Rolfer™ 2011-2014
Rolf Movement™ Practitioner 2015
Sharon Wheeler ScarWork™ Therapy 2017
Scaravelli Yoga Teacher 2018
During the year of lockdown 2020-21, I have also undertaken a Hanna Somatics Exercise Coach training with Lisa Petersen.
